Badeanstalten i Augustenborg Fjord is a bathing water located at Madeskoven near Augustenborg, Denmark. The beach is approximately 100 metres long and 2–11 metres wide, consisting of fine sand with a bathing pier. The water is brackish with salinity levels between 16–24 ‰. The beach has been classified as excellent based on water quality monitoring data from the past four years.

Water

Marine brackish water body in Augustenborg Fjord with salinity of 16–24 ‰. The beach is approximately 100 metres long and 2–11 metres wide. The seabed consists of sand with scattered large stones. Water depth reaches 0.5 metres at approximately 5 metres from shore and 1 metre depth at approximately 10 metres from shore. Current direction follows the coastline in both westerly-northwesterly and easterly-southeasterly directions.

Location

The bathing area is located near Augustenborg, with access via a forest path east of the parking area at Hertugbyens Camping, Ny Stavensbøl 1. Alternative access is available through paths from Augustenborg town via Augustenborg Park. Parking is available at the campsite.

Facilities

Benches, waste bins, and changing rooms with a wide veranda are available on the beach.

Water Quality

The bathing water is classified as excellent. Laboratory analysis is conducted from 1 June to 15 September, testing for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Analysis results from the past four years show no exceedances of faecal coliform limit values. The most likely sources of faecal contamination are stormwater overflows during heavy rainfall and incorrect connections in separated sewage systems.

Risks

Small risk of algal bloom from cyanobacteria or blue-green algae; no previous observations recorded. No previous phytoplankton blooms observed during the bathing season. Small risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up; bathing is generally not recommended during large quantities of seaweed due to potential toxin formation in decaying seaweed and survival of pathogenic bacteria in seaweed.
