Genner Strand is a bathing beach approximately 360 metres long located along Sønderballevej in Genner Bay, with a fine sandy beach varying in width from 12 to 20 metres. The seabed consists of fine sand with water depths under 5 metres within 5 metres of the shore. The beach is a Blue Flag designated beach and has been classified as excellent quality based on control samples collected regularly between 2019 and 2022. The surrounding area includes scattered residential properties, a larger holiday home area, and a campsite, with the remainder being agricultural land and forest.

Water

Marine bay water. Beach length approximately 360 metres. Beach width varies from 12 to 20 metres. Water depth under 5 metres within 5 metres of the shore. Fine sand seabed. Currents in the bay flow in changing directions.

Location

The beach is situated in Genner Bay along Sønderballevej, with the municipal boundary between Haderslev and Aabenraa communes running through the middle of the bay. A car park is available at the beach, along with a toilet building, picnic tables and benches, and waste bins. An information board at the car park displays beach information and warning notices.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on control samples collected regularly from 2019 to 2022. Fecal bacteria concentrations are very low. The Aabenraa side of the beach is connected to public sewerage; the Haderslev side is not. Two small watercourses from Haderslev Municipality discharge east of the bathing area. Both the watercourse discharges and surrounding areas are assessed as having low pollution potential.

Risks

Temporary pollution may occur during heavy rain and wind, potentially from individual properties and non-mains sewered holiday home areas, typically lasting maximum 3 days. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, typically occurring after periods of heavy rainfall followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the water's edge. Potential for sudden pollution from incidents such as accidents from pleasure boats, slurry tankers, and sewage pipes.
