Vikær Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Vikær Strand is a 500-meter-long beach consisting of fine sand with some small and medium-sized stones, located 10-20 meters wide along Diernæs Bay. The beach is situated near Vikær-Diernæs Strand Camping and is surrounded by natural area with several small summer cottage areas. Water depth is under 2 meters up to 150 meters from the shore.

Located near Vikær-Diernæs Strand Camping on Diernæs Bay. Parking is available at the camping site.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as excellent based on routine sampling from 2012-2015 measuring E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season.

Risks

Vedbæk stream discharges north of the beach and can contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria during periods of rainfall; swimming is discouraged near the stream outlet and after rainfall. Risk of washed-up macroalgae (seaweed) in the water's edge. Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of chemical contamination. Glass and litter can occur at the beach.
