Geroskepeio Municipal Beach is one of Cyprus's oldest and well-organized municipal beaches. The sandy beach was created by marine sediment accumulation behind a parallel breakwater and has a distinctive C-shaped formation. A vertical artificial stone pier was constructed approximately 100 meters west of the beach boundary to protect moored vessels. The beach features a well-maintained lawn area between the beach zone and restaurant facilities, with decorative vegetation found only in dining and leisure installations along the coastal zone.

Water

South Paphos coastal water body. Sandy seabed with posidonia algae. Beach length: 270 meters. Average water depth: 1.5 meters. Maximum water depth: 2.5 meters. Semi-natural coastal zone modified by the parallel breakwater construction.

Location

Located in Geroskepeio municipality, Paphos district, Cyprus. Coordinates: 32.4425°E, 34.7358°N (ETRS89). The monitoring point is positioned at the center of the beach in an area with high bather concentration.

Facilities

Public facilities available. Waste collection bins throughout the beach length maintained by Geroskepeio Municipality. Summer services include loungers and umbrellas. Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment available from 10:00 to 17:00. Blue Flag designation. Dining and leisure facilities present. Disabled access information not specified.

Season

Lifeguard and monitoring services operate during the swimming season. Frequency of short-term pollution events: once during the swimming period. Average daily maximum number of bathers: 2,500 persons.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The bathing water has been monitored for many years. Formal monitoring reports according to Directive 76/160/EEC began with Cyprus's EU accession in 2004. The coastal body to which this beach belongs is in good ecological status. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton development due to identified pollution sources.

Risks

Short-term pollution risk: Low. Two short-term pollution incidents recorded between 2008 and 2010 (3 June 2008 and 21 July 2009). The 2010 incident was attributed to a passing ship. Possible sources of short-term pollution include malfunction of coastal development sewage systems, storm water runoff, high number of bathers, passing or moored recreational vessels, and marine sports activities.
