Pachyammos 1 is a sandy beach located in South Paphos, Cyprus, with a hard sandstone substrate. The beach is situated in front of a hotel unit and is bounded by two artificial stone breakwaters approximately 100 metres in length. The seafloor consists of sand with some rocks and seagrass meadows. The beach measures 122 metres in length with average water depths of 2.4 metres and maximum depths of 3 metres.

Location

The bathing water is located in South Paphos (Νότια Πάφος) in the Geroskipou Municipality (Δήμος Γεροσκήπου), Paphos District (Επαρχία Πάφου), Cyprus. Coordinates: 32.4299°E, 34.7416°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Lifeguards and lifesaving equipment are available from 11:00 to 17:30, serving both Pachyammos 1 and the adjacent Pachyammos 2 beach. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag designation. Public toilets and showers are not available, but bathers can use hotel facilities. Waste collection bins are present along the entire beach length, maintained by Geroskipou Municipality. Summer services including sunbeds and umbrellas are provided by the hotel.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The monitoring programme has been in place since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004, following Directive 76/160/EEC. An isolated pollution incident occurred during the 2006 bathing season. No recorded incidents of short-term pollution were documented during the 2008-2010 bathing seasons. The coastal body to which this bathing water belongs is in good ecological status.

Risks

Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Potential pollution sources include septic tanks from coastal developments and recreational vessels using the area for water sports.
