Pachyammos 2 is a bathing beach located in the Pafos South water body in Cyprus, measuring 380 meters in length. The beach is primarily rocky with sandy sections to the south, situated in front of a hotel unit and extending from an artificial bracket to the southeast toward a natural cape to the northwest. The coastal zone is semi-natural, with touristic developments and dining facilities, and features a significant concentration of posidonia algae throughout the bay.

Water

Pafos South coastal water body. Average water depth is 2.4 meters with a maximum depth of 3 meters. The bay bottom features sand strips and rocks, with hard sandstone substrate. The area is located within a major catchment with average precipitation of 551 mm annually and average annual runoff reaching maximum in February (540 l/sec) and minimum in September (46 l/sec).

Location

Located in the Municipality of Geroskipou, Pafos District, Cyprus. The sampling point is situated at the centre of the beach at coordinates 32.4291°E, 34.7425°N (ETRS89). Parking information is not specified.

Facilities

Lifeguard services and lifeguard equipment available from 11:00 to 17:30. Toilets accessed via hotel facilities. Waste bins along the beach. During summer, sun beds and umbrellas provided by the hotel. No public facilities are available. Water sports activities are permitted.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs during summer months with southeast winds prevailing.

Water Quality

Water quality is excellent based on monitoring data since 2009. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Low degree of risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth. Great concentration of posidonia algae is present throughout the bay.

Risks

Small risk of short-term pollution from malfunction of beach developments' sewage systems and passing boats, occurring approximately once per bathing season for 1-2 days. Potential pollution sources include agricultural runoff, beach development sewage pits, and rainwater pipe outfalls. Passing and mooring recreation boats present potential pollution risks.
