Laiki is a bathing beach in the Pafos South water body near Geroskipou, Cyprus. The beach is 605 metres long and composed mainly of pebbles with a narrow sandy strip along the coastline. The substrate consists of sandy gravel with marl and sandstones appearing deeper. An alley of eucalyptus, mulberry trees, and palm trees line the upstream part of the beach, and the coastal zone contains tourist and recreational facilities.

Water

Pafos South coastal water body. Average water depth is 1.5 metres with a maximum depth of 2.5 metres. The bottom is sandy with few pebbles in the coastal zone. The bathing water is located within a catchment with an average altitude of 465.1 metres and average surface precipitation of 551 millimetres. Annual runoff ranges from 46 litres per second in September to 540 litres per second in February.

Location

Located in the Pafos district, Municipality of Geroskipou, Cyprus. The sampling point is positioned at the centre of the beach where most bathers are expected. Coordinates: 32.4458°E, 34.7356°N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Public facilities including waste bins, lifeguards and lifeguard equipment. Sun beds and umbrellas are offered during the summer period.

Water Quality

Water quality status is excellent based on monitoring data since 2008. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Low degree of risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth has been estimated.

Risks

Negligible risk of short-term pollution. Potential sources include large numbers of bathers and passing boats. No short-term pollution incidents were reported during 2008–2010. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton growth.
