Yiannades is a 1,200-metre sandy beach with scattered pebbles located in the northeastern part of Larnaca Bay, Cyprus. The beach is lined with vegetation including palm and eucalyptus trees, with two bars and tourist facilities along its length. Access is straightforward via an asphalt road connected to the regional road network. The beach supports water sports activities including jet skis, water skiing, and speedboats. Maximum daily bather numbers reach approximately 800 people.

Water

Northeastern Larnaca Bay. Length: 1,200 metres. Average depth: 1 metre. Maximum depth: 2 metres. The seabed in the shallow zone has sandy granular composition with scattered pebbles. Semi-natural coastal zone with parallel breakwaters constructed 140 metres from the shoreline.

Location

Larnaca District, Boroklini Community. Accessible via asphalt road at short distance from the beach, connected to primary and secondary road networks of the region. Approximately 800 metres north of the beach is the A3 motorway.

Facilities

Organized toilets and showers at tourist pavilion near monitoring point. Two bars on beach. Disabled access facilities provided. Approximately 300 fixed bases for Hawaiian-style umbrellas along entire beach length. Lifeguard service with equipment available from 10:30 to 18:00. Waste collection managed by Boroklini Community with 18 bins distributed along the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. The adjacent coastal body is in good ecological condition. Isolated pollution incidents were recorded during the 2007 bathing season attributed to high bather numbers. One short-term pollution event was recorded between 2008 and 2010 (24 June 2008). Risk of short-term pollution occurrence is low.

Risks

Moored light vessels in adjacent Lords Beach create potential marine pollution risk. Motor-powered water sports including jet skis, water skis, and speedboats present potential pollution sources. Agricultural runoff and seepage from the catchment zone. Stream discharge near the beach may increase pollution risk. Moderate risk level for eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton development. Possible short-term pollution sources include stormwater runoff, passing vessels, and sewage network malfunction.
