Glyngøre

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Glyngøre Strand is a child-friendly beach located on a peninsula northeast of Glyngøre Harbour and town in Salling Sund. The beach extends approximately one kilometre from the harbour to the western edge of Halkhoved Plantation and is 10–15 metres wide, composed primarily of sand with mixed gravel and stones. The seabed consists of sand with some gravel and stones. The beach is shallow with approximately 130–200 metres distance from shore to 2 metres water depth.

Water

Saltwater in Salling Sund. Water temperature during the bathing season varies between 10 °C and 22 °C. Surface water current direction primarily flows from southwest to east, dependent on current conditions in Salling Sound. Current can vary significantly with wind direction and strong winds.

Location

Located on a peninsula northeast of Glyngøre Harbour and town. GPS reference point: Glyngøre Strand, Durupvej 9, 7870 Roslev. Access from the harbour or via Durupvej, where parking is available. A path leads from the parking area to the beach, with additional access via a path at the beach's eastern end.

Bathing bridge, toilets at harbour, handicap toilet at harbour, tables and benches on beach, waste bins on beach, information board, lifebuoy and rescue post on beach. Blue flag designation.

Water Quality

Water is classified as 'Excellent' quality, the highest classification for bathing water according to Danish bathing water regulations. Classification based on data from 2016–2019 for E. coli and enterococci. Analysis of bathing water data from the municipality's monitoring over the previous 5 years shows very stable conditions and low bacterial levels.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms, particularly other microscopic algae species during bathing season. Very low risk of blue-green algae due to high salinity. Low risk of Sargasso seaweed and eelgrass accumulation. Low risk of oxygen depletion. Low risk of chemical pollution from shipping accidents or oil spills. Possible occurrence of Pacific oysters (invasive species) with sharp shells. Pollen accumulation possible in spring and early summer. Low risk of faecal pollution from boat toilet tank emptying and manure spills.
