Bjørndrup is a bathing beach approximately 150 metres long located in Morsø Municipality, Denmark. The beach consists primarily of fine sand with some areas of small stones near the waterline. The seabed is mostly sandy. The beach width varies between 5 and 10 metres. Water depth is shallow across the entire beach, requiring approximately 200 metres to reach a depth of 2 metres, making it suitable for swimming.

Water

Limfjorden, classified as saltwater. The beach experiences variable current directions with no dominant direction. Current directions were measured approximately 40 times between 2007 and 2010.

Location

Bjørndrup is accessed via Nørrebro with signage directing to the beach via Møllegårdsvej. The road narrows to a gravel road in the final section. Limited parking is available for 5–10 cars. The nearest town is Nykøbing Mors.

Private bathing jetty, 2 tables and benches, life ring, waste bins.

Water Quality

Bathing water classification: Excellent quality. Classification is based on routine water samples taken during the bathing season, analysed for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The classification was calculated using samples collected regularly between 2013 and 2016. Classification is revised annually before the start of the bathing season. Concentrations must not exceed 250 CFU per 100 ml for E. coli and 100 CFU per 100 ml for enterococci.

Risks

Brydebæk grøft discharge outlet located immediately south of the beach and approximately 70 metres south of the bathing jetty poses a risk. During periods of rainfall, the watercourse may contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria from combined sewer overflows in Bjørndrup. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms is assessed as low but blooms may occur, particularly during prolonged warm weather with nutrient-rich water. Toxic substances from algae can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea and diarrhoea. Risk of large accumulations of seaweed (macroalgae) is assessed as low. Glass shards, waste and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
