Refshammer is a bathing beach approximately 500 meters long located in Limfjorden near Nykøbing Mors, Denmark. The beach consists of fine sand with minimal large stones, and the seabed is primarily composed of small stone and sand. Water depth increases gradually, requiring 125–200 meters from the shore to reach 2 meters depth. The beach is situated in a densely built villa district with some forested areas nearby.

Water

Limfjorden saltwater body. The beach varies in width from approximately 2 to 20 meters. Water depth increases gradually offshore, reaching 2 meters at 125–200 meters from the shore. Dominant current directions are between south and west.

Location

The beach is located approximately 2 kilometers from Nykøbing town center. Access is via two public roads: Sommervej or Strandhuse. Good parking is available at both access points.

Facilities

At Sommervej: dry toilet, shelter, tables and benches, rescue post. At Strandhuse: toilet, private bathing pier, tables and benches, playground, petanque court, ball court.

Season

Routine monitoring is conducted during the bathing season, with classification revised annually before the season starts.

Water Quality

Classified as Good quality. Classification is based on routine monitoring of fecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season. The classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins. Testing was conducted regularly from 2013 to 2016.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms, though sudden blooms may occur during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Low risk of large seaweed accumulation at the waterline. During heavy rainfall, a combined sewer outlet approximately 800 meters south-southwest of the beach poses a small risk of affecting bathing water quality. Glass, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Sudden pollution from ship accidents, recreational boats, and sewer leaks is possible.
