Sallingsund Camping

Sallingsund Camping is a bathing beach located on the eastern coast of Mors, approximately 6 kilometres from Nykøbing Mors town centre. The beach features fine white sand and is approximately 200 metres long and 8 to 10 metres wide on average. The seabed consists primarily of fine-grained sand with occasional stones. The water in Limfjorden is classified as saltwater with dominant current directions from southern and southwestern directions.

Saltwater body in Limfjorden. Water depth typically requires travel 50 metres from the shore to reach 2 metres depth. Dominant current directions measured from southern and southwestern directions during 2007-2010.

Location

Eastern Mors, approximately 6 kilometres from Nykøbing Mors centre. Access via Sallingsundvej. The beach is located adjacent to Dragstrup Camping and Sallingsund Færgekro, and near Sallingsund Bridge. Excellent parking facilities are available at the beach.

Toilet, tables and bench sets, lifebuoy, private bathing bridge.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples from 2013-2016 analysed for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. No nearby faecal pollution sources have been identified. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms is low but can occur during extended warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Algal toxins can cause headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea. Large quantities of seaweed (macroalgae) may wash ashore during periods of strong onshore winds; bathing near accumulated seaweed is not recommended as it can harbour bacteria and produce toxins. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur. Sudden pollution events from ship accidents, boats, and sewage lines are possible.
