Denmark Lake 1 - Excellent

Grusgravssø ved Dyndet, also known as Badesøen, is a deep-water lake with a surface area exceeding 2 hectares located approximately 3.5 km southwest of Borup in Denmark. The lake bottom consists primarily of coarse sand and gravel. A designated bathing beach with open sand bottom measuring approximately 50 metres runs along the northwestern shore. The lake sits low in the terrain in a relatively sheltered location with prevailing westerly winds.

Water

Freshwater lake formed in a gravel pit with surface area exceeding 2 hectares. The lake bottom consists primarily of coarse sand and gravel. A narrow shallow-water area exists in the northeastern corner of the bathing beach; the lake becomes very deep within a few metres of the shoreline in most areas. Water originates from groundwater with no inflow from streams, canal outlets, or sewage overflow systems.

Location

Located approximately 3.5 km southwest of Borup in the protected area Regnemark Mose. The nearest car park is a gravel parking area opposite Dyndetvej 30.

Facilities

Waste bins, rescue equipment post, table and bench sets, mobile toilet during bathing season, bonfire area. Toilets inspected and cleaned regularly from Easter to November. Rescue post inspected weekly during bathing season and monthly outside the season.

Season

Official monitoring period from 1 May to 1 September with minimum four water samples collected. Mobile toilet available during bathing season.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as 'Excellent quality' based on bacterial analysis data from 2007–2010. The lake has good ecological status based on chlorophyll content. Risk of faecal pollution is assessed as low based on water analysis from the preceding 3–4 years. Nutrient content is low and risk of algal bloom is low.

Risks

Very deep water within a few metres of the shoreline; caution advised especially for families with young children. Algal bloom risk is low but general safety advice provided regarding water clarity and foam. Beach pollution with debris such as glass fragments can occur.
