Venø Vest

Venø Vest is a 350-meter-long beach located on the island of Venø, facing Venø Sound to the west of Venø town and harbour. The beach is primarily composed of sand with scattered small stones and shells, varying in width from 60 meters at the southern end to approximately 30 meters at the northern end. The water has been classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring of fecal indicator bacteria during the bathing season.

Water

Saltwater body in Limfjorden. Water depth rises gradually, with depths under 2 meters extending 130 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the west based on 30 measurements taken between 2008–2010.

Location

Venø island, west of Venø town and harbour. Access to the beach is via Havstokken road, which leads to a parking area at the harbour where toilets and a rescue ring are available.

Parking area, toilets, rescue ring (redningskrans), trash bins, information signage at the beach.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Annual classification revision takes place in May before the bathing season starts.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent quality. Classification is based on routine sampling of E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season, with measurements taken regularly between 2011–2014. The classification meets statutory quality standards and is revised annually before the start of each bathing season.

Risks

The stream Rønkær Grøft flows into the area north of the beach and may contain elevated fecal bacteria concentrations; however, within the defined beach area its influence on bathing water quality is low. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) washing ashore. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms and phytoplankton blooms is assessed as low. Possible sudden contamination from boat accidents, slurry tank spills, or sewer line leaks. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
