Hallstättersee, Hallstatt

Austria Lake 1 - Excellent

Hallstättersee is a fjord-like lake in the south, nestled between steep slopes of the Dachstein massif, becoming shallower toward the north. The lake covers 8.5 square kilometers and reaches depths up to 125 meters. Strong discharge from the Traun river prevents significant warming even in summer, yet the lake experiences active bathing. Water clarity is generally good due to low nutrient levels, though mineral turbidity can temporarily reduce visibility after storms.
