Water

Venø Bay, classified as saltwater. Water depth under 1 meter extends approximately 300 meters from the shore. Current direction is variable but primarily from the west and northwest.

Location

Handbjerg, a town with 239 inhabitants, located on Venø Bay. Parking is available at the beach. The beach is marked with a blue line and is 140 meters long.

Facilities

Toilets, trash bins, benches and tables, rescue ring, disabled access facilities, parking, signage system for water quality warnings.

Season

Monitoring occurs during the official bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the season starts.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as Good quality. Water is monitored routinely during the bathing season for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). Classification is based on regular sampling during the bathing season and previous seasons, revised annually before the season starts. Main pollution sources are rainfall-dependent discharges from the overflow structure at Engvej, the Vinderup treatment plant outlet/overflow, and overflow from a pumping station in the Ejsingholm holiday home area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Short-term faecal pollution occurs after heavy rainfall; swimming is advised against for 3 days after heavy rain. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur. Macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation risk is low but present.
