Livbjerggård Strand

Livbjerggård Strand is an 800-meter-long beach located in Hjerm, Denmark, comprising fine sand with scattered small stones. The beach is 20 meters wide and faces Venø Bay. It is backed by a vegetated embankment that transitions to a steep cliff in the eastern section, with a natural area between the embankment and beach. A small watercourse discharges over the western end of the beach.

Water

Saltwater fjord (Limfjorden). Water depth increases gradually, with depths under 2 meters extending approximately 200 meters from the shore. The fjord bottom consists of sand with small and medium-sized stones.

Location

Located in Hjerm near Struer Municipality, Denmark. Parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Warning sign system for degraded water quality. Lifeguard or monitoring presence during bathing season. The beach is marked by a blue line and has defined swimming boundaries where water quality is routinely monitored.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Monitoring samples are taken regularly throughout the season. During rainfall and for 24 hours after rainfall ceases, bathing is discouraged pending investigation of faecal pollution sources.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Satisfactory. The classification is based on routine monitoring samples from 2007–2010 testing for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. The beach meets required standards. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season.

Risks

A minor watercourse discharging at the western end of the beach can contain very high concentrations of faecal bacteria during rainfall. Swimming is discouraged at and around this watercourse outlet and in any temporary pond that may form. Hummelmose Å watercourse, located 2 km west, can also contain high faecal bacterial concentrations during rainfall and may degrade water quality with eastern-flowing currents. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large macroalgae accumulation. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur.
