Havnbjerg Strand is a sandy beach approximately 400 metres long and 8–12 metres wide, with some stones and occasional seaweed. A bathing pier is available. The beach bottom consists of sand, scattered stones, and seaweed vegetation. Water depth reaches 0.5 metres at approximately 12 metres from the shore and 1 metre at approximately 20 metres from the shore. The beach is classified as excellent for bathing water quality.

Water

Marine brackish water in the Little Belt. Salinity ranges from 16–24 ‰. Dominant current directions are northwesterly, westerly, or southwesterly; occasionally southeasterly. Current data from 2006–2019 show the current follows the water in the Little Belt, flowing along the coast in both directions.

Location

Accessed via Strandvej from north or south near Nordborg (address: Strandvej, 6430 Nordborg). A parking area is available with toilet access during summer months.

Season

1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent. Laboratory analysis conducted from 1 June to 15 September tests for indicator bacteria E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Analysis results from the past four years show no exceedances of the limit value for faecal colibacteria. The stream Privat E discharges into the bathing area. Possible contamination sources include dwellings with mechanical treatment and private discharge to drainage fields, overflows from single dwellings, and overflows from Himmark Treatment Plant.

Risks

Small risk of cyanobacteria blooms in this region; none observed at this beach. No previous phytoplankton blooms observed during the bathing season. Small risk of seaweed (macroalgae) washup, particularly in autumn. Heavy rainfall may cause contamination via the stream with a time delay of up to 3 days, though contamination typically disperses rapidly.
