Ringkøbing Camping is a beach located west of Ringkøbing on the northeast side of Ringkøbing Fjord. The beach is 400 meters long and 10 meters wide, composed of fine sand with a gently sloping seabed. Large natural areas near the beach create an attractive setting. The beach is highly suitable for families due to its shallow waters, with most of the fjord being less than 2 meters deep.

Water

Saltwater fjord. The seabed consists of sand with scattered small stones. Water depth increases gradually, with most of the fjord being under 2 meters deep. Current direction is variable with no primary flow pattern measured across 32 occasions between 2008–2010.

Location

Ringkøbing, Denmark. Access via Vellingvej to the beach. Parking is available near the beach.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for E. coli and enterococcal bacteria taken over the preceding 4-year period. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season. Under normal circumstances, the identified pollution sources (rainwater discharge, Tranmose Stream, drainage ditches, Ringkøbing Central Treatment Plant, and Von Å stream) have low influence on water quality within the defined beach boundary.

Risks

Rainwater discharge outlets below the parking area carry risk of high faecal bacteria concentrations during heavy rain. Tranmose Stream outlet, located 1 km southeast, poses risk of high faecal bacteria concentrations and swimmers are advised against bathing in its outlet. Drainage ditches along the coast carry risk of high faecal bacteria during rain. Two overflow structures at Ringkøbing harbour can discharge untreated sewage into the fjord during heavy rainfall, potentially degrading water quality. Von Å stream has a large catchment and receives multiple overflows, with risk of high faecal bacteria especially during rainfall. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation. Glass fragments, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
