Ringkøbing Camping

Ringkøbing Camping is a bathing beach located west of Ringkøbing facing the northeastern part of Ringkøbing Fjord. The beach comprises fine sand and is 10 meters wide and 400 meters long. It features a gentle slope with most of the fjord under 2 meters deep, making it particularly suitable for children. The beach is surrounded by large natural areas and offers scenic views over the shallow fjord waters.

Water

Saltwater fjord (Ringkøbing Fjord). Water depth increases gently from the shore with the majority of the fjord under 2 meters deep. Current direction is variable with no primary current direction. The fjord floor consists of sand with scattered small stones.

Location

Ringkøbing Camping is centrally located west of Ringkøbing. Access is via Vellingvej to the beach. Parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Toilets, parking, bathing bridge, rescue ring, first aid kit, trash cans, warning sign for water quality deterioration, blue flag, emergency telephone.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Water quality classification is reviewed each year in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine sampling and analysis of two faecal indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. Sampling occurs regularly during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Fecal bacteria pollution sources include: a stormwater drain outlet below the parking area with low influence within the designated swimming zone; Tranmose Stream approximately 1 km southeast with risk of high fecal bacteria concentrations; drainage ditches southeast of the beach with low influence within the designated zone; Ringkøbing Central Wastewater Treatment Plant 2.5 km northwest with normal operations having no influence; two overflow structures at the harbour with potential to discharge untreated sewage during heavy rainfall; Von Å watercourse north of the harbour with large catchment area and overflow capacity. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large amounts of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up is low. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Sudden pollution from boat accidents, manure tanks, or sewer lines is possible.
