Hv. Sande Nord is a bathing beach located on the western part of Ringkøbing Fjord, east of the northern part of Hvide Sande. The beach consists of fine sand with small stones scattered evenly across it. The beach is 20–30 metres wide and 170 metres long. Water depth increases gradually offshore, making the area very child-friendly, with most of the fjord being under 2 metres deep. The water is classified as brackish water.

Water

Ringkøbing Fjord. Water is brackish. The fjord bed consists of fine sand with small stones. Current direction is variable with no primary flow direction. Water depth increases gradually offshore, with most of the fjord under 2 metres deep.

Location

Located east of the northern part of Hvide Sande in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. Access is via Gytjevej, which leads to guest parking at the surfer club located south of the beach. A surfer club with a water ski cable park is situated nearby with facilities including toilets and food services.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Water quality is monitored routinely during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) collected regularly over the preceding 4-year period. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Drainage ditches along the coast have the potential to contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria during rainfall. A rainwater basin 60 metres south of the beach poses a risk during heavy rain. A storm overflow structure 350 metres south can discharge wastewater during heavy rainfall and overloading of the sewerage system. A wastewater treatment plant 1.8 km south has an emergency overflow that may affect water quality during major discharges combined with northward currents. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation is low. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
