Hejlsminde Badehotel is a broad, family-friendly beach located in the heart of Hejlsminde, with views of the marina to the south, the town to the north, and Hejls Nor to the west. The beach features fine sand without significant stones and is 250 metres long. The water is classified as brackish water in the Little Belt strait, with gently sloping depths and shallow conditions overall. Water depth remains under 2 metres approximately 200 metres from the shore.

Little Belt (Lillebælt) strait, brackish water. Water depth under 2 metres approximately 200 metres from shore. Depth increases gradually and the area is shallow. Current direction is variable. Depth conditions are variable with tide.

Facilities

Parking, toilet facilities, bathing platform with wheelchair ramp into the water, rubbish bins at the toilet building. Lifeguard present during summer season. Warning signs and information boards at the beach.

Season

Routine water quality monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Annual classification review takes place in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent in 2020, based on routine monitoring samples collected throughout the bathing season over the preceding four years (2016–2019). Water is tested for E. coli and enterococci as faecal indicator bacteria. The classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Three emergency overflow points from the wastewater system located 400 metres south, 200 metres north, and 500 metres north of the beach; these can discharge sewage into the strait during heavy rainfall. Risk of algal blooms is low but possible in prolonged periods of warm water rich in nutrients. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) washes ashore in the water's edge. Sudden pollution from boat accidents, slurry tanks, or sewage lines can occur. Glass shards and litter may be present on the beach.
