Mindegården Hejlsminde

Mindegården Hejlsminde is a fine sand beach located in green surroundings below the Hejlsminde summer house area on the Little Belt (Lillebælt). The beach is 200 metres long and features two large green areas suitable for various activities. A playground, toilet facilities, and a bathing jetty are located at the southern part of the beach, making it a family-friendly destination.

Water

The beach faces the Little Belt (Lillebælt) and the water is classified as brackish. Water depth increases gradually from the shore, and the area is shallow with depths under 2 metres at approximately 200 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable. Depth conditions are subject to tidal variation.

Location

Located at Teglgårdsvej 12, 6094 Hejls, in Kolding Municipality. Parking is available at the beach. The beach reference point is UTM coordinates 538838 (X) and 6136620 (Y), EUREF89 system, UTM Zone 32.

Facilities

Toilet facilities, playground, bathing jetty, waste bins, and a lifeguard rescue hoist during the summer season. Parking is available.

Season

Routine monitoring samples are taken during the bathing season. The bathing water classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

The bathing water was classified as Excellent quality in 2020, based on monitoring samples taken regularly during the bathing season from 2016–2019. Classification is determined by measuring two indicator bacteria: E. coli and enterococci. The classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Emergency overflow outlets are located 500 metres south and 100 metres north of the beach; during heavy rainfall they may discharge sewage if the sewer system is overloaded, potentially causing short-term water quality degradation. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low but possible during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash ashore at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter may occur at the beach.
