Trappendal is a child-friendly beach with fine white sand situated below a large green area separated from the shore by a steep slope. The beach is 250 meters long and features a bathing pier. The natural setting creates a distinctive atmosphere, and the beach is well-equipped with facilities and parking.

Water

The beach borders Lillebælt (Little Belt). The water is classified as brackish water. Water depth increases gradually from the shore with the area being very shallow. Current direction is changeable. Depth conditions vary with tides.

Trappendal, located at Elkærgårdvej in Trappendal, Denmark. Large parking area is available. Beach identification number G560.

Season

Monitoring conducted throughout the bathing season. Classification reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classification (2020): Excellent. Classification is based on routine sampling throughout the bathing season, testing for E. coli and enterococci. Monitoring conducted over the previous four years (2016–2019). Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season.

Risks

A storm water outlet north of the beach can discharge high concentrations of fecal bacteria during rainfall from bird, dog, and other animal feces. A wastewater treatment plant outlet is located 800 meters from the beach via an 800-meter discharge pipe; under normal conditions it does not affect water quality. An emergency overflow is positioned 500 meters south of the beach and may activate during heavy rainfall if the sewer system is overloaded, potentially causing deteriorated water quality if pollution reaches the beach. Low risk of cyanobacteria blooms but possible during prolonged warm weather with nutrient-rich water. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) washup is a risk. Glass shards and litter can occur at the beach.
