Helletofte N

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Helletofte N is a 150-metre-long beach on the west coast of Langeland, facing Langelandssund. The beach comprises fine sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones, is 10–15 metres wide, and features a large bathing pier during summer. A green area between the summer cottage district and the beach serves as a playground and creates an attractive setting for swimmers.

Water

Brackish water in Langelandssund. Water depth increases gradually, reaching less than 2 metres at 500 metres from the shore. Current direction is variable but primarily from the north.

Location

Helletofte N is located on Langeland's west coast at the Helletofte N summer cottage area. Access is via Helletoftevej, which leads through the summer cottage district to the beach.

Facilities

Large bathing pier installed during summer months.

Season

Bathing season monitoring occurs from May onwards, with routine water samples taken regularly throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring for the indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci during the bathing season. The classification meets the required standards and is revised annually in May.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (kelp) washup in the water's edge. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Potential for sudden contamination from accidents involving leisure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage lines. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
