Syd for Brokkenhøj is a bathing beach located in the northwestern part of Fårevejle in Denmark. The beach features fine sand and extends approximately 400 meters in length with a sand area approximately 15 meters wide. At the sampling point, the water reaches a depth of 0.5 meters at 30 meters from shore, 1 meter depth at 35 meters, and 2 meters depth at 115 meters. The water is brackish, a mixture of salt and fresh water. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality based on data from 2018-2021.

Water

Brackish water (mixture of salt and fresh water) with variable current direction, most frequently from the south or north. The beach is approximately 400 meters long with a sand area approximately 15 meters wide.

Location

The beach is situated at Sandvej 5 in the northwestern part of Fårevejle. A path leads from the road to the water. A parking area is located 500 meters from the beach. The beach is in a nature-protected area with summer houses in the surrounding hinterland.

Facilities

Information signs are posted at the beach regarding water classification, beach description, and where additional information can be found. Sand beach monitoring is conducted at least 4 times per year.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality according to regulations, based on data from 2018-2021. Bathing water analysis in August 2021 showed widespread pollution in Nekselø Bay and Sejerø Bay, and bathing was advised against. Low bacterial concentrations suggest any pollution contamination in summer would likely last 1-3 days depending on weather, current, and wind conditions. No registered discharge outlets near the beach.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Risk of macroalgae growth is medium. Bathing is advised against if water is unclear and feet cannot be seen when water reaches knee level. Bathing is not recommended near algae washed ashore due to potential toxins and surviving bacteria. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occasionally occur. In August 2021, widespread pollution was recorded in the bay.
