Holing Sø is a sand beach with a sandy bottom located in Herning, Denmark. The bathing water profile extends approximately 300 meters along the shore, with a beach width of 2–3 meters. Water depth ranges from approximately 0.5 meters at 12 meters from shore to 1 meter at 20 meters from shore. The water is typically clear with visibility exceeding 1 meter, and algae are absent or very sparse with no blue-green algae present.

Water

Freshwater lake. Bathing water profile extends approximately 300 meters. Beach width is 2–3 meters. Water depth reaches approximately 0.5 meters at 12 meters from shore and approximately 1 meter at 20 meters from shore. The lake is fed almost exclusively by groundwater with additional water from a small ditch at the northern end.

Season

Bathing water monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. Classification is revised annually before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification calculated based on routine control samples collected during 2013–2017 monitoring routine testing for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria. No known pollution sources are identified in the bathing water profile area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Blooms can occur suddenly, especially during prolonged periods of warm and nutrient-rich water. Blue-green algae and phytoplankton can produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea upon contact. Children and immunocompromised persons are particularly vulnerable.
