Sunds Sø Ved Østbred

Sunds Sø is a lake bathing beach with a sand bottom and clear water. The beach is approximately 10 metres wide with a bathing water profile extending about 100 metres to the east and 20 metres to the west. Water depth ranges from 0.5 metres at the shore to 1.5 metres at 16 metres out (east side) and 1 metre at 52 metres out (west side). The water is typically clear with visibility exceeding 1 metre and contains no or very few algae.

Water

Lake (Sunds Sø). Partially fed by groundwater with inflows from three streams (Kvalsholm Bæk, Møllebækken, and a smaller parallel watercourse) at the western end. Sand bottom. Water depth: 0.5 metres at 6 metres out (east), 1 metre at 11 metres out (east), 1.5 metres at 16 metres out (east), 0.5 metres at 19 metres out (west), 1 metre at 52 metres out (west). Water clarity typically exceeds 1 metre visibility.

Location

Sunds, Herning Municipality, Denmark. Access via Østre Søvej, Søgårdvej, and Ilskovvej.

Season

Routine monitoring conducted during the bathing season. Classification reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on routine monitoring for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season from 2013–2017. No known pollution sources identified in the bathing water profile area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Blooms can occur suddenly, particularly during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Algae can produce toxic substances causing headache, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea upon contact or ingestion.
