Sunds Sø is a sandy beach with clear water and a sand bottom located in Herning Municipality, Denmark. The bathing water profile covers approximately 100 metres to the east and 20 metres to the west, with a beach width of about 10 metres. Water depth ranges from 0.5 metres near the shore to 1.5 metres further out. The water is typically clear with visibility exceeding 1 metre, and algae are absent or very sparse.

Water

Freshwater lake. The bathing area extends approximately 100 metres east and 20 metres west, with a beach width of 10 metres. Water depth increases from 0.5 metres at 6 metres offshore to 1.5 metres at 16 metres offshore in the eastern section, and to 1 metre at 52 metres offshore in the western section. Water clarity typically exceeds 1 metre visibility. The lake is partially fed by groundwater and receives inflow from three streams: Kvalsholm Bæk, Møllebækken, and a smaller parallel watercourse.

Location

Sunds Sø, located in the municipality of Herning, Denmark. Access points are at Østre Søvej, Søgårdvej, and Ilskovvej in Sunds. Herning Kommune is the responsible authority.

Season

Classification is revised annually before the start of the bathing season.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality based on routine monitoring conducted from 2013–2017. Classification is based on analysis of faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). No known pollution sources are present in the bathing water profile area.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Algal blooms can occur suddenly, particularly during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water, and may discolour the water. Algae can produce toxins causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhoea upon contact. Children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable.
