Holmskov Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Holmskov Strand is a child-friendly sandy beach located in a scenic natural area with views of Langeland. The beach stretches over 500 metres with fine sand and a bathing jetty. Water depth remains shallow for many metres from shore, making it suitable for families. The seabed consists of sand with scattered small stones and some seaweed.

Water

Saltwater in the South Funen Archipelago. Water depth less than 2 metres extends 150–200 metres from shore. Tidal range is less than 0.5 metres. Current direction varies with wind conditions, primarily from southwest and northeast.

Location

Holmskov Strand 17, 5874 Hesselager, near Svendborg, Denmark. Parking and toilet facilities are available at the beach entrance.

1 June – 15 September

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples from the past four years. Water is analysed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria during the bathing season (1 June – 15 September). Classification is reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Risks

Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) accumulation at the water's edge. Stokkebæk stream outlet approximately 200 metres north of the beach may cause minor faecal pollution. Low risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) and phytoplankton blooms. Possible hazards include glass fragments, litter, chemical pollution, and oil spills from boats, sewage leaks, or slurry tanks.
