Lundeborg Strand is a sandy beach extending from the small harbour town of Lundeborg approximately 1 km northward toward Purreskoven forest. The beach features fine sand with occasional small stones and is notably child-friendly due to shallow water and nearby play facilities. A bathing pier is available for swimmers. The beach is sheltered by rolling terrain behind it and continues southward with coarser sand in forest shade.

Water

Saltwater bay (Det Sydfynske Øhav). Beach length over 500 m, beach width 10–30 m. Water depth less than 2 m for approximately 100 m from shore. Tidal range under 0.5 m. Current direction varies with wind conditions but primarily from the south.

Location

Lundeborg, southern Funen, Denmark. Access via Havnevej which ends at a parking area with direct beach access. Nearest address: Havnevej 4A, 5874 Hesselager. Parking available. Bus service available.

Bathing pier, parking, toilet (including accessible toilet), bus service, kiosk and restaurant, mobile network coverage, Blue Flag status, lifeguard services (implied by Blue Flag), first aid kit in toilet building, rescue equipment available.

1 June to 15 September (routine monitoring period).

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on routine monitoring samples from the last four years. Monitoring occurs during the bathing season (1 June to 15 September). Water is analysed for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Tange Å stream 150 m north of the beach may be a source of short-term faecal pollution; swimming near its outflow is discouraged. A rainwater pipe at the southern end of the beach presents similar risk. Wrack (macroalgae) may accumulate at the water's edge; swimming or children playing near large accumulations is discouraged due to potential toxin production and pathogenic bacteria. Glass shards, litter, and chemical contamination including oil spills can occur. Cyanobacteria and phytoplankton bloom risk assessed as low but blooms may occur during prolonged warm periods with high nutrient levels. Sudden pollution incidents from pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewer lines are possible.
