Kallemosen is a bathing beach located at the bottom of Aabenraa Fjord in the southern part of Aabenraa town. The beach is approximately 200 meters long with varying widths around 15 meters and consists of sand with a sandy seabed. Water depth remains under 5 meters up to approximately 450 meters from the shoreline. The beach has been classified as excellent quality based on monitoring from 2019 to 2022.

Fjord bathing area. Beach length approximately 200 meters with varying width around 15 meters. Water depth under 5 meters extending to approximately 450 meters from shoreline. Sandy seabed. Water level can vary significantly, particularly during storms.

Location

The beach is situated in the southern part of Aabenraa, at the bottom of Aabenraa Fjord. Parking is not available immediately adjacent to the beach but is located approximately 600 meters north.

Facilities

Warning sign posted on the beach. Information board displays current water quality classification and general beach information.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on regular monitoring samples collected 2019–2022. Samples from the monitoring station show excellent quality. Contributions from nearby stream outlets (Farversmøllebæk and Skelbækken) and surrounding areas are assessed as relatively low.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur, typically after periods of heavy rain followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the shoreline. Combined sewer system overflows may occur during heavy rainfall, causing temporary pollution lasting up to 3 days. Occasional pollution from boat accidents, slurry tanks, and sewage leaks is possible.
