Damstederne is a sandy beach bathing area located in Frederikshavn Municipality in the Skagen region. The bathing profile extends approximately 11 kilometres along the coast with a sandy bottom and width varying between 15 to 30 metres. The water is clear with over 1 metre of visibility and contains few or no algae and no blue-green algae. Water depth ranges from 0.5 metres near the shore to 1.5 metres at 15 metres from shore.

Water

Sandy beach with sandy bottom in the Skagerrak. The bathing profile extends approximately 11 kilometres. Width varies from 15 to 30 metres. Water depth is 0.5 metres at the shore, 1 metre at 10 metres from shore, and 1.5 metres at 15 metres from shore. The water is salt water with predominantly southward current direction that varies.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor based on samples collected over the last 4 seasons. The bathing water is monitored for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria throughout the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). Both bacteria are found in the intestines of humans and warm-blooded animals. An overflow structure is located approximately 850 metres northeast of the bathing water profile; during heavy rain, wastewater mixed with rainwater flows into the sea.

Risks

Bathing is discouraged north of the bathing water station at Damstederne during heavy rain. Bathing is generally discouraged in and around stream outlets.
