Kandestederne

Grenen is a sandy beach bathing area located in Skagen, northern Denmark. The beach extends approximately 14 kilometers and is 50–70 meters wide, with a sandy bottom. The water is salt and clear with visibility exceeding 1 meter. Water depth increases gradually from approximately 0.5 meters near the shore to 1.5 meters at 15 meters distance.

Water

Salt water body with sandy bottom. Water depth approximately 0.5 meters near shore, 1 meter at 5 meters distance, and 1.5 meters at 15 meters distance. Water currents are weak to strong from varying directions, predominantly from the southwest. Water clarity exceeds 1 meter visibility depth.

Location

Skagen, Frederikshavn Municipality. The bathing profile extends from Skiveren strand in the south, passing by Kandestederne, and continuing northward. The responsible authority is Frederikshavn Kommune, located at Rådhus Alle 100, 9900 Frederikshavn.

1 June to 1 September

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, good, or satisfactory based on samples collected over the last four seasons. Monitoring is conducted for fecal indicator bacteria E. coli and Enterococci throughout the bathing season. Skiverrenden discharge outlet located approximately 20 meters north of the bathing water monitoring station may be a pollution source. No other identified pollution sources exist within the bathing profile area.

Risks

Bathing is discouraged in the stream outlet area near Skiverrenden due to possible fecal contamination. Algae presence is noted in the area classification system.
