Damstederne is a sandy beach with a sand bottom located in Skagen, Denmark. The bathing water profile extends approximately 11 kilometres along the coast, with widths varying between 15 and 30 metres. The water is clear with visibility exceeding 1 metre, salt water, and few or no algae present. There are no cyanobacteria. Water currents are variable but predominantly flow southward.

Salt water body. Water depth is 0.5 metres at 5 metres from shore, 1 metre at 10 metres from shore, and 1.5 metres at 15 metres from shore. The bathing water profile extends approximately 11 kilometres with widths varying from 15 to 30 metres.

Location

Skagen, Frederikshavn Municipality, Denmark. An overflow structure is located approximately 850 metres northeast of the bathing water profile.

Season

1 June to 1 September

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored for the faecal bacteria E. coli and Enterococci throughout the bathing season (1 June to 1 September). Water quality is classified as excellent, good, satisfactory, or poor based on samples collected over the previous four seasons. An overflow structure located 850 metres northeast of the profile may discharge wastewater mixed with rainwater into the sea during heavy rainfall.

Risks

Swimming is discouraged north of the bathing water station at Damstederne during heavy rainfall. Swimming is generally discouraged in and around river outlets.
