Hummingen Strand

Hummingen Strand is a 200-metre-long beach in Dannemare along Femern Bælt, characterized by fine sand with small to medium-sized stones at the water's edge. The beach is 10–20 metres wide and bordered by holiday homes and a campsite. The water is classified as brackish and the beach is situated in scenic surroundings with views across the open area.

Water

Brackish water in Femern Bælt. Water depth increases gradually from the shore and is under 2 metres at approximately 100 metres from the coast. The seabed consists of sand with small to medium-sized stones in the first few metres from shore, transitioning to fine sand further out.

Location

Located in Dannemare along Femern Bælt in Lolland Municipality, Denmark. Access is via Østersøparken, which leads to a large car park at the beach entrance. Toilet facilities and a shop are available at the car park.

Car park, toilet facilities, shop, trash bins along the dyke and at the car park, first aid kit, life ring, information signage.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality for 2022. Classification is based on routine water samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season. Monitoring occurs from 1 June to 1 September.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up at the water's edge. A large watercourse discharges approximately 2,000 metres east of the beach and may contain high bacterial concentrations; bathing in the outflow is not recommended. Glass shards and litter can occur. Risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills is very low. Sudden contamination from recreational boats, slurry tanks, or sewer lines is possible.
