Strand 1

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Strand 1 is a 500-metre-long beach in Rødby, Denmark, composed of fine sand with scattered small stones. The seabed offshore also consists of fine sand and slopes gently from the shore. The beach is backed by dune landscape characteristic of South Lolland's coast and faces Femern Bælt to the east of Rødbyhavn.

Water

Brackish water in Femern Bælt. Water depth increases gradually from shore, reaching under 2 metres approximately 100 metres from the coast. Current direction is variable with no dominant flow.

Location

Rødby, Denmark. Access via Sandholmvej. Parking available next to Lalandia. Toilets available at the parking area.

Parking, toilets, rescue buoy.

Season

Bathing season monitoring period. Classification revised annually in May before the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water classification for 2022: Excellent quality. Classification based on routine samples tested for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the 2021 bathing season. The beach was newly designated in 2021. No known sources of faecal contamination affecting water quality.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up in the water margin. Glass and litter can occur. Possible sudden contamination from incidents such as recreational boat spills, slurry tanks, or sewage lines. Very low risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills.
