Hvalpsund Strand

Hvalpsund Strand is a sandy beach approximately 300 metres long with widths varying from 10 to 25 metres, located immediately south of Hvalpsund Ferry and Fishing Harbour. The beach features a bathing jetty extending 20–25 metres into the water and is one of two wheelchair-accessible beaches in the municipality. Water quality has been consistently good and stable over many years, classified as good quality according to current standards.

Water

Sandy beach in a coastal area. Approximately 300 metres long with variable width of 10–25 metres. Bathing jetty extends 20–25 metres into the water. Current is typically very weak, generally moving in a north-easterly direction or according to wind direction.

Location

Hvalpsund, close to town centre with nearby shops, restaurants, and kiosks. Parking area and toilet facilities are available immediately adjacent to the beach. Information board is located at the beach near the bathing jetty.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as good quality. All analyses for E. coli and enterococci are 15 or below, meeting transition order requirements. Bathing water profile has been designated as one of four White Flag beaches in the municipality. Analysis results show excellent to good measurements with very stable conditions over many years.

Risks

Macroalgae (seaweed) occasionally washes onto the beach; swimming is discouraged near large accumulations due to potential toxin production in decaying seaweed and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV radiation. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is not documented in recent times. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as very low.
