Illerisøre Strand

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Illerisøre Strand is a narrow beach approximately 450 metres long composed of small stones and sand, with grass and other plants growing down to the water's edge in places. The water contains alternating areas of sand and stone, with seaweed present in the southern end. The beach is lightly used, primarily by campers and residents of nearby summer houses. Water depth varies across the beach.

Water

Coastal water body with alternating sand and stone substrate. Beach length approximately 450 metres. Variable water depth as shown on the overview map. Normal water flow is minimal and typically follows wind direction.

Location

The beach is located north of Hvalpsund camping. Access is available from a small car park at the end of Illeris and directly from the campground. An information board is posted at the car park. The harbour and ferry town of Hvalpsund, with shops and restaurants, is approximately 1 kilometre to the southwest. A large summer house area and Hvalpsund campground are located behind the beach.

Water Quality

Water is classified as excellent quality bathing water, assessed on the basis of analysis results from the four preceding years. Measurements from the monitoring station near the drainage pipe indicate no significant wastewater contamination. Pollution from bathers or surrounding properties is not considered to have appreciable impact on water quality. No direct sewage discharge, overflow structures, or similar features are present at the beach.

Risks

Seaweed occasionally washes up on the beach; if large quantities accumulate in the near-shore area, swimming is advised against. No knowledge of cyanobacteria blooms in recent times. Risk of phytoplankton growth is assessed as very small. A rainwater outlet is located approximately 250 metres southwest of the beach; a drainage outlet is present at the northern end of the beach but is mostly dry.
