Kærgård

Kærgård Strand is a bathing beach located 8 km south of Agger on Krik Vig in Nissum Fjord. The beach is approximately 20 meters wide and more than 300 meters long, composed of coarse sand and stones. The area is associated with the Kærgården summer house area and surrounded by beach heathland, featuring pine plantations, dunes, meadows, and fields. Minor streams discharge into the water near the beach and south of Kærgården.

Water

Nissum Fjord, Krik Vig. The beach is approximately 20 meters wide and more than 300 meters long. Water depth reaches 2 meters approximately 200 meters from the shore. Salinity: 28–32 psu. Summer water temperature (May to August): 10–24 degrees Celsius. The seabed consists of coarse sand and stones.

Location

Nearest town: Vestervig. From Klostergade at Vestervig (route 527), turn right onto Kærmindevej toward the Kærgården summer house area, then right onto Ingersvej and follow it approximately 1 km to the parking area. From the parking area, it is approximately 70 meters down a steep path to the water.

Season

Bathing water analysis is conducted continuously throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, the highest bathing water quality classification. Classification is based on analysis data from the preceding four years. No faecal contamination has been detected in bathing water analyses.

Risks

Possibility of seaweed wash-up during strong winds and onshore wind, which can create aesthetic problems for swimmers and produce unpleasant odours during decomposition. Risk of algal blooms exists in nutrient-rich fjords during warm, calm, sunny weather (April to October), though no blooms have been observed in this area. Blue-green algae can occur in late summer during prolonged warm and sunny weather, but no blooms have been observed in this area.
