Visby Strand is a bathing location on the Limfjorden between Koldby and Hurup. The beach is approximately 2 metres wide and 100 metres long with sand and clear, shallow water at the edges. Water

Visby Strand faces the Limfjorden. The beach is approximately 2 metres wide and 100 metres long. The water is shallow at the edge; you can walk approximately 220 metres from the water's edge before reaching a depth of 2 metres. Salinity ranges between 18–30 psu. Summer water temperature ranges from 11–19 degrees Celsius. Current and flow patterns depend on wind conditions and tidal activity. No tributaries flow near the bathing site.

Location

Visby Strand is located on Oddesundvej (main road 11). From Oddesundvej, turn into Visby on Østergårdvej and follow it for approximately 1 kilometre until a path appears on the right. The bathing area is approximately 50 metres from Østergårdvej along this path. The nearest address is Østergårdvej 5, 7755 Bedsted. No parking information is specified.

Facilities

A bathing bridge is available in summer. Lifeguards, toilets, showers, and disabled access are not mentioned.

Season

Bathing water analysis is conducted throughout the bathing season. Algae monitoring occurs from April to October.

Water Quality

Visby Strand is classified as excellent quality, the second-best bathing water quality classification. This classification is based on bathing water analyses from the previous four years. Non-sewered areas exist in the nearby catchment but do not pose a risk for faecal contamination based on analysis results. Nutrient and pesticide leaching from agricultural land in the catchment occurs but does not directly affect bathing water quality. No combined sewer overflows, treatment plant failures, storm water discharges, manure spills, fish farms, or dumping sites have been identified as risks.

Risks

Macroalgae (seaweed) can break loose in heavy weather and wind and wash onto the beach, creating aesthetic problems and potential oxygen depletion from decomposition. Algal blooms and cyanobacteria may occur during prolonged warm, calm, and sunny weather typically from April to October, though no blooms have been observed in the area to date.
