Kelstrup Strand Syd

Kelstrup Strand Syd is a 350-metre-long natural beach with fine sand and scattered small to medium stones. It is located on Sandvig bay with clear views over calm waters. The beach is 10–15 metres wide with a seabed of sand and small stones. Water depths increase gradually, remaining under 2 metres within 100 metres of the shore.

Water

Brackish water in the Little Belt (Lillebælt). Current direction is variable, primarily from southwest or west. Water depth under 2 metres extends approximately 100 metres from the shore.

Location

Kelstrup Strand Syd is located south of the Kelstrup Strand holiday home area on Sandvig bay in Haderslev Municipality, Denmark. Parking and bin facilities are available near the beach access path.

Facilities

Bins, warning signs, control point markers. Lifeguards, toilets, showers, and disabled access are not mentioned.

Season

Official monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Classified as excellent quality based on monitoring samples collected from 2012–2015. Water is regularly tested for E. coli and enterococci indicator bacteria. Risk of cyanobacteria bloom is low; risk of phytoplankton bloom is low.

Risks

Kelstrup Bæk stream outlet lies immediately west of the beach and carries elevated fecal bacterial levels during rainfall; swimming is discouraged during and after heavy rain. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) wash-up exists. Glass and litter can occur. Risk of chemical pollution is very low. Sudden pollution from boats, slurry tanks, or sewage pipes is possible.
