Vilstrup Strand ved Helsehjemmet is a 300-metre-long beach located in Vilstrup Forest overlooking Diernæs Bay in Denmark. The beach is 10 metres wide and features a gradual composition from medium stones at the waterline to fine sand further inland. The seabed consists primarily of sand with scattered small stones, and water depth remains shallow, reaching less than 2 metres at 225 metres from the shore. The beach is situated below Helsehjemmet and Ehlershjemmet care facilities and west of the Vilstrup Strand summer house area.

Water

Brackish water (brakvand) in Diernæs Bay. The beach is 300 metres long and 10 metres wide. Water depth is less than 2 metres at 225 metres from the shore. Current direction primarily comes from the southwest, with prevailing currents assessed over the period 2006-2010.

Diernæs, Denmark. The beach is located below Helsehjemmet and Ehlershjemmet care facilities and west of the Vilstrup Strand summer house area. Bathing piers are installed during the swimming season.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification calculated on basis of routine monitoring samples taken during 2012-2015. Water is monitored for E. coli and enterococci bacteria. Classification is revised annually before the start of the swimming season.

Risks

Hoptrup Canal has an outlet 400 metres west of the beach and may periodically contain high concentrations of faecal bacteria. Several smaller watercourses west of the beach also risk periodic high faecal bacteria concentrations. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Low risk of large quantities of macroalgae washing ashore. Low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Glass shards and litter may occur. Sudden pollution is possible from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, or sewage lines.
