Vilstrup Strand ved Hoptrup Kanal is a 450-metre-long bathing beach located on Diernæs Bay in Denmark. The beach consists primarily of fine sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones, and extends 10 metres in width. The water is classified as brackish and is relatively shallow, with depths under 2 metres extending 225 metres from the shore. The beach features several bathing piers and views over the shallow Diernæs Bay.

Location

The beach is situated south of the Vilstrup Strand summer house area and east of the Diernæs Strand summer house area. Access is available via Havvejen, a road running along the beach. The beach is managed by Haderslev Kommune.

Season

1 June to 1 September

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Satisfactory. Classification is based on routine monitoring for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) conducted during the bathing season. The classification is recalculated annually based on samples collected from 2012–2015.

Risks

Hoptrup Kanal stream outlet located east of the beach may contain elevated concentrations of faecal bacteria and discharges into the bay. Vedbæk stream outlet located 800 metres southwest may affect water quality during rainfall and when currents flow from the northeast. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms is low. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low. Risk of large quantities of macroalgae washing ashore is low. Glass and litter may occur on the beach. Risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills is very low. Sudden pollution from accidents involving leisure boats, slurry tanks, or sewer lines is possible.
