La Nave is a bathing water located in Vernazzo, Liguria, along the Cinque Terre coast. The area features high rocky cliffs alternating with sandy-pebbly beach, bounded to the east by the breakwater of the tourist harbour. Free beach access is available alongside tourist accommodation and local dining facilities. The beach is classified as Good water quality for the 2019–2022 four-year period.

Coastal waters within the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area. The bathing area extends 1.842 km. Main water courses include Fosso Vignaresca and Canale di Vernazzo.

Location

Vernazzo, La Spezia Province, Liguria region. The railway station is located inland, with Provincial Road 51 and public parking available. To the west, a staircase leads to a hiking trail towards Monterosso; to the east, the blue trail connects to Corniglia.

Water Quality

Classification: Good (2019–2022 four-year evaluation). The bathing water is within the Cinque Terre Area 12 monitoring network for Ostreopsis ovata. Reference station at Monterosso al Mare recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit during 2018–2022.

Risks

The coastal sewage treatment plant at Tagliata operates approximately 1.1 km from shore, with an active discharge pipe passing through the bathing water. Tourism-related port pollution from Vernazzo harbour is present. During heavy precipitation, torrent discharge may transport sewage downstream. Ostreopsis ovata benthic microalgae proliferation occurs in Liguria; effects include temporary reversible respiratory issues and fever in sensitive individuals.
