La Vernette is a small rocky beach located between Lazaret Bay and the small harbour of Toulon, framed by Aiguillette Point with its fort to the north and La Vernette Point with its fort to the south. The beach measures 100 metres in length with an open configuration facing southeast. It experiences low visitor numbers.

Water

Semi-enclosed marine water body. Beach length: 100 metres. Drainage basin area: 0.05 km². Good water renewal due to semi-enclosed configuration.

Location

La Seyne-sur-Mer, located between the Corniche de Tamaris. Situated between Lazaret Bay and the small harbour of Toulon, bounded by Aiguillette Point to the north and La Vernette Point to the south.

Season

Official monitoring period: 15 May to 30 September (summer season). Fortnightly bacteriological analyses conducted by ARS (French Health Authority) at the monitoring point.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: EXCELLENT. Vulnerability index: LOW. No nitrogen or phosphorus inputs confirmed. No history of algal blooms. 2023 summer season bathing water samples maintained EXCELLENT classification.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include discharge from the Cap Sicié wastewater treatment plant outfall (50,000 m³/day surface discharge, potentially impacted by southwest winds); a storm water collector (weak bacterial pollution risk); and the Mar Vivo pumping station (weak risk of discharge from network malfunction under dry conditions). Risk of algal proliferation classified as LOW.
