Plage de la Verne is a semi-enclosed beach located between Baie du Lazaret and the small roadstead of Toulon, bounded by Pointe de l'Aiguillette to the north and Pointe de la Verne to the south. The beach is approximately 500 metres long and characterized by numerous rocks, boat moorages, and boat storage facilities. It has a medium visitor frequency and a natural watershed of 5 square kilometres.

Location

La Seyne-sur-Mer municipality. Located between Baie du Lazaret and the small roadstead of Toulon along the Corniche de Tamaris, bounded by Pointe de l'Aiguillette (north) and Pointe de la Verne (south).

Season

Summer season: 15 May – 30 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (as of 2023 monitoring season). ARS (regional health authority) sampling during summer 2023 maintained the Excellent classification at the sampling point. Vulnerability index assessed as High due to multiple potential pollution sources in proximity, though bacteriological results contradict the pessimistic vulnerability analysis. Risk of algal bloom considered Low.

Risks

Multiple potential pollution sources identified: illegal discharge points on wastewater network (medium risk, dry weather); stormwater collectors (low risk, dry weather); pumping stations risk of overflow (low risk, dry weather); storm water canal (low risk, dry weather); mooring zone (low risk of contaminated water discharge). All sources have elevated risk during rainfall. Secondary beach La Vernette potentially impacted by south-westerly winds.
