Mar Vivo poste de secours is a 300-metre semi-enclosed beach in La Seyne-sur-Mer facing south with high visitor numbers. The beach features easy access and a shower connected to the mains network. It is subject to multiple pollution sources including a nearby stormwater canal, a wastewater pumping station, and the Cap Sicié wastewater treatment plant outfall located at the cape's extremity with potential impacts from south-westerly winds.

Water

Semi-enclosed beach, 300 metres long. The catchment area is 2.4 square kilometres. Water renewal is adequate due to the semi-enclosed configuration.

Location

La Seyne-sur-Mer. The beach has two ARS sampling points: Mar Vivo Poste de secours and Mar Vivo Chemin de l'Hermitte.

Facilities

Lifeguard post (Pompiers/SCHS). Shower connected to mains network. A mobile toilet unit (Algeco) is present during the season.

Season

Summer season: 15 May to 30 September.

Water Quality

During summer 2023, the sampling point was downgraded from 'Good' to 'Sufficient' classification due to frequent non-conforming regulatory results. The vulnerability index for the beach is rated as Strong. Risk of bacterial pollution from stormwater runoff is low in dry weather and increases with rainfall. The site has a history of regulatory non-conformities, predominantly detected during dry weather sampling.

Risks

Potential pollution sources include a counter-slope wastewater network section with risk of wastewater discharge onto the beach during rain events, stormwater collector with bacterial contamination risk, gate valve overflow from the Pas du Loup pumping station, and the wastewater treatment plant outfall (50,000 cubic metres per day) with potential impacts during south-westerly winds. Additional risks from adjacent properties including underground garage with refoulement pump, and a swimming pool. A stormwater canal functions as a collector. Algal bloom risk is considered low.
