Laguna del Rey is a natural limestone lagoon located near the town of Ruidera in Castilla la Mancha, Spain. It is part of the exceptional Ruidera Lagoons Natural Park, a series of 15 interconnected lagoons stretching 35 kilometers along the Guadiana river basin with cascades and natural barriers. The lagoon is fed by surface water from upstream lagoons and the Hazadillas stream, maintaining stable water levels year-round. The landscape features Mediterranean vegetation including oak forests, scrublands, and aquatic reed beds.

Water

Natural karstic limestone lagoon with a travertine barrier. Part of a stepped series of lagoons at different elevations separated by natural carbonate barriers. Substrate composed mainly of limestone, dolomite, and marl. Lake bed consists of medium sand and gravel. Permanent water body fed primarily by surface water from upstream cascades and the Hazadillas stream, which provides year-round discharge. Water level remains relatively stable throughout the year due to impermeable materials retaining water. Located within the Campo de Montiel aquifer system.

Location

Located at the entrance to Ruidera, to the south of the town. Access from Ruidera via the N-430 road towards Manzanares; after approximately 700 metres, turn right onto the road leading directly to the bathing area parking. Parking is available at the site.
