Laguna La Redondilla is a small, oval-shaped karst lake located in Ossa de Montiel, Albacete province, in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain. It is part of the Ruidera Natural Park, an exceptional and extensive wetland system comprising 15 lakes connected by waterfalls and groundwater flows. The lake receives water from Laguna San Pedra and drains into Laguna Lengua through beautiful waterfalls. The lake lies at an altitude of 850 meters and sits atop the Campo de Montiel aquifer (aquifer 24), with a rocky substrate primarily composed of limestone, dolomite, and marls.

Water

Karst lake, calciferous, permanent, with travertine closure. Very small lake with reduced depth and oval shape. Part of a series of lakes arranged at different heights and separated by natural barriers of lacustrine carbonates. Transversal profile width approximately 82 meters. Substrate is primarily limestone, dolomites, and marls. The bed contains aquatic plants and fine sands. The lake has occasionally been dry or nearly dry due to uncontrolled use of groundwater for agricultural purposes.

Location

Southeast of Ruidera, in the municipality of Ossa de Montiel, Albacete province, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Access via CR-650 road from Ruidera towards Ossa de Montiel, passing Laguna Lengua and turning right at a small junction. Parking is available at the bathing area.

Risks

The lake has experienced periods of being completely or nearly dry due to uncontrolled extraction of groundwater for agricultural purposes.
